The humor between this comic and the last one had to be changed a bit from what I originally intended. In the first frame of last week’s issue Kelly and Joe’s dad was supposed to say: “Excellent! Not a cloud in the sky. We’ll get a great look at tonight’s meteor shower.” This would then of course set up today’s issue and reveal that Kelly and Joe obviously haven’t been paying attention to the celestial forecast. But we’ll let them believe that they hit something in the sky if they like. After all who knows? Maybe they really did.

The reason the script had to be shortened was the result of a simple lack of space. I’ve chosen to do all the lettering by hand so that both the art and the lettering look as if they belong together, or at least that is the goal. It does mean that I can’t always say everything I want though, as I have to be careful that the text is still legible even after I shrink the art down to size (yes, everything is drawn by hand traditionally as well). This means that my letters are larger than they would be if I were using a typeface. But this is a skill that I’ve wanted to learn. Hopefully everyone can read everything just fine so far (or else I’ll have to reconsider a very large part of my work process).
